I know lots of folks here are stuck on L1/H1-B visas in US waiting years for their green card. After I moved to UK I found that receiving a “talent” visa here is much easier than O-1 in US and basically any senior software engineer can get it by building a good case with a good lawyer. Global Talent visa gives you full right to live in UK with or without being employed and can be exchanged to the permanent residence after 3 years. I’m pretty bored today so I can answer any questions about the application process and conditions here!
Do you put milk in first? What is your view on that?
Hey, What are the requirements for that global talent visa? And what’s your background? Did you do PHD? What’s your YOE? For someone who did only bachelors is it even possible?
I am only bachelor with 6 yoe.
Actually my university diploma wasn’t even part of the application.
How did you get recommendations letters for your visa? Im looking to apply via the "promise" route but I've barely worked in 1 tech firm, so I should probably ask blind for one. 😅
Actually my lawyer wrote all the recommendation letters, so the people would only need to sign them. I asked managers from my current and previous company and another guy from my current team.
Can you get PR after 3 years on a skilled worker visa? It takes 5 years that way, right?
Yup 5 years that way.
Skilled Worker Visa -> 5 years (PR) + 1 year (citizenship) Cons: you will lose the visa if you lose the job. Global Talent Visa -> 3 years (PR) + 1 year (citizenship) Pros: You don’t have to be employed Cons: None
Did you excel academically at university or have received any difficult to get awards(like ACMs, Olympiad, etc) because I think those are the sort of things you would need to get a global talent visa - which makes it quite difficult for the average joe to get
No, I’m a very average bachelor from a third world country’s university.
then how did you make your case? maybe it’s the fact that you were able to get an offer from FB given that you’re from a third world country is the reason?
Curious about how you got the Global Talent Visa I think if you are entering the UK for a job, you get the skilled worker visa right?
Yes, but you can apply for the global visa too. Global visa has more flexibility
Country of birth?
Don’t matter. Anyone can get that visa. There is no per country cap as of now
Why do you want to stay in UK. It's actually more like a major city in the US. Why not try for Canada? They will give anybody a PR without even staying in Canada for a single day.
Canada is boring. I love how big and international London is and how easy it is to travel anywhere from here.
What are the chances if going through the endorsement route without a job offer? Have average academic grades but from a tier 1 clg in india and close to 4yoe
AFAIK job offer doesn’t make any difference in your application.
So what are the differentiating factors?
