I know lots of folks here are stuck on L1/H1-B visas in US waiting years for their green card. After I moved to UK I found that receiving a “talent” visa here is much easier than O-1 in US and basically any senior software engineer can get it by building a good case with a good lawyer. Global Talent visa gives you full right to live in UK with or without being employed and can be exchanged to the permanent residence after 3 years. I’m pretty bored today so I can answer any questions about the application process and conditions here! TC: £170k An average E5 in Meta coming from a third world country with a couple of average tech articles and repos on github
What are the documents or steps needed to get the talent visa ? Phd necessary?
With a PhD you can get NIW EB2 in the US.
No, I’m just a Bachleor. Need to collect references from managers or higher confirming that you were making some impact as a senior or higher and have some open source contributions.
Why UK not Canada?
No real advantage to Canada over the UK Not one
Ain’t it. The pronounce is not American in UK. It’s boring. UK sounds boring and less TC. If you are really good you can manage better TC at Canada. Canada is any day better than UK. UK is overrated as Bucking Palace.
* No, I moved from Eastern Europe. * I’m 24. Don’t have an answer for the second question. * £170k, $500k * No, but I’m leaving Meta now * Yes
Your getting offers which pay higher than that in the UK?
So UK citizenship a year after the PR?
In this case 2 years, you have to spend 5 years in UK for the passport
How is the job market in UK? I heard people go to Ireland for IT jobs. Is it true? How is pay compared to here in the US? How is health system? Do you like it here in the US or the UK? I know it varies from person to person, but how are the overall comfort working with Englishmen vs Americans.
Try Canada , TCs are much better there. It’s increasing. Bucking Palace is no fun.
I’m not American, so don’t have much context on the healthcare. I don’t think there is any shortage with IT jobs, there are tons of openings on LinkedIn including FAANG.
Well, you must have done something exceptional within and outside your job to get it, and were also able to provide evidence for it. I don't think any average joe can get it just by presenting tweaked information via good lawyer.
I’ll take it as a compliment :) but it’s really not that hard and the second case is totally possible.
Indian?
No
Thank u for offering to help fellow blinders...
Imagine wanting to live in the UK in 2022
If you're from there, it's not bad, I guess. If you're not from there, what's the incentive to move there exactly? Particularly considering that it doesn't give EU free movement privileges anymore.
