Currently I fly the F18 for the Navy, am earning my MBA from UNC KF and also have a STEM undergrad background. I would like to get into a tech PM role when I leave the Navy. Do large tech companies like to hire ex military officers for these roles? Thanks!#pm #productmanager #fighterpilot
Does this mean you’ll drop a Maverick on a developer’s house if they fall behind? Talk about some motivation...
Haha gotta motivate them somehow!
If you pass the interviews, they will hire you regardless of your military background.
You don't really need a MBA to become product manager in most product companies. You don't need to wait to finish your MBA before applying. When I was at Microsoft, it used to have special training and hiring support for veterans - https://careers.microsoft.com/us/en/military My simple guess without meeting you is that if you can fly a F18, you have higher cognitive abilities to manage multi-tasking than most other folks.
Thanks for the response. I am able to get my MBA at almost no cost using my GI bill and it couldn’t hurt. I’ll look into that thank you!
Getting a MBA is good if you consider Amazon. It’ll guarantee you get L6. It’s a huge plus compare to other strong candidates without a MBA.
I know some ex-military people who became PMs at Facebook through the RPM program. Could be a great fit for you if you’re new to product management / big tech.
If you have a clearance, Microsoft and Amazon have cleared work in DC which I assume they need cleared tech PM’s for
Cool, I have a TS/SCI
Nice! I actually am switching over to Microsoft (just got an offer last week) and you get a 25% annual bonus for TS/SCI w/ poly which is really nice. With no poly it’s 20%
Feels like a Poets and Quants blog
USAA is a place that hires veterans for all sorts of tech roles, and they are way ahead in term of innovation and technology. It’s a place you would love working if you don’t mind moving to TX, AZ or Colorado and they have great job security too. During my five year stint there, I enjoyed every single day working with the most amazing people.
Thank you for your service. Government contractors would probably hire you on the spot. I have seen TC exceed AWS and Microsoft with the SMB contractors.
Thank you for your service. Dropbox is looking for product managers. If you find something interesting, DM me your details.
They greatly appreciate military background. In fact that is one of the first questions they ask before starting hiring, that and disability and for some weird reason race.
Look up the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC)
It is not for some weird reason.
