Got an offer to join JP Morgan as a Vice President, and I am contemplating whether it is worthwhile to transition from a tech company to the finance sector. Currently, I am part of a fantastic team, facing cool technical challenges. My concern is that the new role might prove uninteresting, leading to a regression in my career. Also, JP requires 3 days in the office while I’m fully remote right now. Current level: Senior, YOE: 10. Tc: 🥜 Offer tc: 20% higher
J.P. Morgan doesn’t have SVP, it’s VP and then Director. Role title is Lead engineer.
All banks have a setup where tech is a cost centre and not profit centre. This limits technical challenges and growth in the long term.
Current TC ?
Biggest thing that no one speaks about financial clients is a lock down ecosystem . Even if banks are working on new tech it need not be the way outside companies use tech . Basically wrappers on top of wrappers are what driving most of development.

Boss or company
Hard to say without solid TC numbers, 20% on 150k is vastly different than 20% on 500k
Very funny to think they pay 500k for a VP
It’s LCOL so definitely the former
