Hi folks, I have a pretty cushioned job at Google but things have become stale (team reductions, budget cuts, no growth). I am entertaining a MD position at chase consumer bank and I wonder how the culture and perks are: - WLB - IN OFFICE PERKS - VACATION POLICY - GENERAL BENEFITS IN USA - DRESS CODE YOE: 20 TC: ~1M depending on stocks #culture #officelife #workplace
MD? Managing Director? Does that have overlap with SWE at google?
It’s their equivalent of like VP/SVP
First level MD is more like L9 scope at L6 pay.
can chase come even close to your current pay???? can they even pay you half your current pay?
I know folks in JP with 3m cash bonus yearly, what are you smoking
SWEs? lol
Sounds BS to me. If you are making 1mm at G & getting offered MD role, you won’t be posting here.
Why not?
Would have known why. Lol
New TC?
I haven't discussed that yet, recruiter said that comp shouldn't be a problem. I'll update once I know.
Over a month now. TC update?
Any insights on my questions will be greatly appreciated
MDs are full time RTO. Hard requirement from Jamie. What in office perks do you think there are? The free coffee is trash and that's about it. The simple way to state it is that the Starbucks in my JP building's lobby had a long line all the time. There is no Starbucks in my G building because we have a coffee shop with great baristas. No free food at JP and the cafeterias are pretty shit, so we generally went out to eat every day.
I would stick with your cushioned life at G. Most MDs here have it hard unless they are in the inner circle. RTO mandates 5 days no exceptions for MDs, lots of red tape to get anything done. Have to meet metrics by any means necessary, budgets tend to be difficult to maneuver and distribute without road blocks. You can get 1m but most will be primarily stocks. Culture depends on LOB you would be joining but for the most part you likely won't have a cushioned job anymore.
Very helpful! What is the inner circle? What metrics are Tech MDs measured on?
There's a lot of cliques in the firm at that level, if you don't fit in, play ball, drink the Kool aid you tend to have a bad time. There's tons of metrics and it depends on the line of business you are working in
Run far away from JPMC. Are you dumb to move from Google to JPMC ? Also you have to come to office 5 days mandatory, else be terminated
Google has gotten pretty stagnant and full of red tape top down strategy created by egocentric VPs. The hiring freeze limits growth opportunities. I am aiming for 30% more comp and 3X the size of my team and scope.
My fellow human complaining about google red tape - be prepared to kiss ass every day for 2 weeks straight just to be able to install ublock on your browser at JPMC. That’s the level of red tape you will experience at chase.
Our current MD is in bay area and heading a pretty large division. And I'm pretty sure she is full time WFH. She is also ex-FAANG. I or anyone on here wouldnt really know their comp or benefits. But MDs do pretty well. It be a good move if you wanna retire.
Came to CCB from big tech. Got a hefty salary and worked 5h a day but left after a year because of incompetent leadership (MDs) and generally terrible product and people. Chase is a good place to retire while active, not a place to continue, make change, and grow your career. If you are thinking of closing the shop, this is the place.
I wonder if I can bank on the additional TC for a couple of years, gain experience leading a larger org and then go back to big tech in a larger role.
I see. The problem, IMHO, is the way JPMC conceives leadership. It is nothing compared to FAANG and much more oriented towards optics, corp America politics, PPT slides, all-hands that look like TV shows and a ton of nonsensical hours wasted in pleasing upwards leadership. Customer obsession simply doesn't exist. Also, top caliber talent is extremely scarce, almost non-existent, which means that people will dance around a ton of BS and you'll have to cut your ambitions to what your teams can effectively deliver and what out of bounds compliance, "reputation", and other nonsensical teams let you do. I am quite ambitious both personally and with respect to my teams, but had to live it myself and became miserable AF because of simply not having both resources and an organizational environment to get stuff done. I could not have held another year like that. I hope your situation is different.
