L7 probably. L6 if you aren’t very bright but somehow got to the ED position because you knew the right folks. I have a friend from JPMC who made the switch thinking his inflated banking title would easily get him a director or senior director position. Started applying to big tech companies with a ton of attitude. He got L6 at Amazon.

Was he a PM?

No. He was an investment banker. Tech companies often hire such folks in M&A and corporate strategy teams.

L6 on the paper, but good luck getting into big tech from JPMC as PM.

The ED title is broad and fuzzy, with both competent and less competent ppl ranging from roughly 8 to 20 YOE. I'd say in median terms it's a mid-to-hight L7 Sr. Manager of PMs (EDs can lead principals and managers of PMs). But there's a bunch of EDs leading other EDs, which means they can also behave as young L8/Directors. It's clearly a terminal role, as few leaders make it to MD. On the left hand of the spectrum there's a bunch of young EDs out there with some experience, low comp for big tech standards (~350k), behaving as L6 mgrs.
