Wondering which offer you guys would consider? JP Morgan is NYC metro $52.88 hr for 10 weeks while hybrid. Return offer would be for same area; or Zillow. Zillow is fully remote $55 hr for 12 weeks. Which is safer and which has a better outlook? #swe #Zillow #jpmorganchase #software
imo one of the big benefits of an internship is the networking with other interns. not sure how a fully remote role would do for that.
Agree with this and more. Internships are also about learning what it's like to work in the real world. You're not going to get that remotely. While a tech internship would be better in general than JP, given these choices, go with JP. Added plus of living in NYC for a summer which you should totally try out.
Zillow is a no brainer, if you wanna tech path down the road. You will be lost in the crowd in jpmc. Of course there is some risk in picking Zillow, as the macroeconomic environment is that not great for next 12 months
Curious is anyone from Z / ZG have details about their financials or internal news that’s good or bad. Especially with their program.
Z is sitting on a large pile of cash and we’re not worried about problems in the market. Non-tech layoffs are a real possibility, but not expecting any to hit tech workers. We’ve got a lot of stuff we need to build to hit our long term goals and not enough devs to do it.
I’m not worried about engineering. We are fairly lean.
Zillow >> JPMC
Zillow. Trust me, I was intern/full time for JPMC.
What’s their program like actually going in?
99% of the time you’re doing nothing. The other 1% is like following tutorials/shadowing one line code changes. Learned nothing. YouTube > JPMC Internship.
Zillow is a good company to start your tech career, mostly modern tech stack and reasonable expectations.
Curious to see how Zillow holds up as housing market crashes
That’s my concern. People who are there seem confident they are okay after attrition. The other factor is losing so much money for HCOL of NYC. But I do also think JPMC is more “prestige” if you care for it.
If you wanna work in tech I don’t think the prestige of JPMC translate... this coming from someone who was in their TAP program like 6 years ago (I think they’ve rebranded to SEP though?) also post internship your placement is such a crap shoot. Had many friends who didn’t even code. Maybe it’s changed since but would not have high hopes myself
