I've been working in PS for past 4 months (started June 2021) as ASDE 1 (India) . Job started with robust but effective bootcamp training that taught me a lot and then I sat on bench for an entire month (might get a project on coming monday). I applied for Amazon in May 2021 and now I've Offer for SDE1 position. I'm unable to decide between the two offers and need some suggestion. Here are some points to consider Points for PS - TC ( 12.7 LPA + 2 L joining bonus) - Gurugram office is just 20 Km from my home. - I've had decent working experience and found most people as helpful and supportive. - 18 PL + 7 sick leave + 10 casual leave + 2 floating holiday + 15 covid leave with some conditions - Slow progress , Hierarchy is ASDE1 -> ASDE2 -> SDE1 , so it will take me around 2 years to become SDE 1 here Points for Amazon - TC ( 14.5 LPA + bonus of 3.6 L + 2.25 (1st and 2nd year) + RSU Value (~11.8 L) ( vesting cycle 5% 1st y, 15% 2nd y, 20% every 6 month until fully vested) - Will need to relocate to Bangalore ( leaving behind Mom and Dad in Gurugram) - not sure but about 30-40 leaves per year - The Amazon TAG I'm young and fresh (just 22), ready to explore and grind hard but review for amazon has not been really great. I've found many people complaining about 0 work life balance. My current job is also a bit demanding but I'm able to squeeze time enough time for my hobbies [Calisthenics ;) ]. It will be a great help if some of you can guide me as I don't want to regret this decision. #engineering #software #swe #amazon #sde
I would recommend to get out of your comfort zone. Join Amazon. Work is hard and challenging, you'll have to grind a lot. But in the end, you'll open a lot of avenues for yourself. The salary progression is pretty good, you'll be earning 30-40L in a couple of yrs. PS: Amazon recently increased its CTC and is offering 15.5L base and 9+6 JB to freshers joining in 2022. You may try negotiating.
Thanks for your honest advice. Can you please tell me freshers of which college are offered this CTC, this will help me a lot !!
I think it is the same for all new-hires. Can someone from @amazon confirm it?
Be aware of work culture at Amazon before hand. I would be very afraid to join even if I have a better offer from them. 0 work life balance, seniors not helping juniors at all, manager throwing reportees under the bus if things go south. Pip quota, competitive nature among peers. My advice- The market is hot right now, if you are able to clear Amazon you might be able to clear others as well. There are so many companies which would pay well and you get to work with humans without so much fear of getting piped. But, IF you are unwilling to try for other companies, then you HAVE to choose Amazon as pay gap and company status is so much that you would regret not joining.
Tried for mircosoft, but my resume was rejected ! Don't know why
PS a typical service based company with no branding at all on resume. I'd run away to Amazon anytime and get that nice TC bump when you switch jobs in few years. You've just started your career, work hard in az for next few years. Maybe you can internally relocate to Noida Amazon office later, that's a possibility.
Noted , Thanks !
Join Amazon n then get some internal contact to find u a job in Gurgaon office. Talk to that team/ HM, most are desperate enough to take anyone. After that tell ur recruiter u want to move to Gurgaon only and even if u were to join BLR u ll just apply for a position in Gurgaon in 2-3 months of joining.
Go for Amazon, work in PS is boring and too easy. ( I am switching myself - level -> asde2 )
