Got a month to prepare for Jane street first round. Any tips or advice? Haven't done leetcode for over a year but was able to postpone the interview to give me some time. Should I just do blind 75 or something? Neetcode? I've read their blog post and watched the recent fake interview on their channel, seems that time/ space complexity isn't as important as explaining well and writing clean code. #janestreet Yoe 2 tc 220k
Yikes, good luck.
An opportunity like that and you’re not prepared OMEGALUL
Why are the first comments so negative? Jane Street definitely wants to weed out they types that are ‘interview ready’ because they do leetcode every day. It seems like they focus more on the ability to write clear, explainable code than ‘algorithm tricks’ competitive programming type code. Leetcode is great but it has a very specific style that isn’t conducive to this. Look for problems where you actually have to write a lot of code. Maybe ones where you actually have to write data structures for the task? There’s also advent of code going on right now which has problems that are of a different style if you’re trying to switch it up. They also for certain want to make sure you can identify edge cases in the problem. Also talk out loud while you’re doing your prep so you’re more comfortable during the interview.
Thanks Google! Yeah I had heard they aren't focused on leetcode specific questions and more solving a real world based problem (but still using data structures and algorithms). I'll try to find problems like the ones you've mentioned
are you in the US?
I recently did Citadel quant first round for SWE. Didn’t get any specific algo or math question. Just a clear “model this simplified service that we use here.” No pseudo code and have to pass the test cases. But you are definitely misguided if you think time space complexity is not important. If anything, that’s the basis of computing. It is part of “writing clean code and explain well.”
Any updates? How did the interview go?
