There's about 1k people who work on Java (mostly people working on Android, but a few backend services are written in Java as well)
Unless you've worked on creating the language itself, we generally don't hire java programmers - we hire software engineers. Software engineers should be able to use whatever tool best fits the job, and not be bound to a specific language.
