[Guidance] Pivoting to tech sales from finance

Hey all! I was curious to ask the Blind community how to make the move to sales in tech, specifically Sales Engineering, coming from finance. A little bit about me (+ story) – my background is in management info. systems and finance. I started my career in product support working for a well-known financial markets data company. After a little bit, I moved into more of a financial systems/data analyst role working for a bank. I’ve come to a point in my career where I’m unhappy with my role, unfulfilled, and lost sight of what I wanted; needed. I’ve tried many avenues to advance my career within the finance industry but nothing felt right, I didn’t feel the passion in this anymore. Things felt stagnant (career and comp). I took some time to zoom out and reassess what my values were, and I realized that I needed to make a change. I stumbled upon the sales engineering role while scrolling the internet. I soon fell into the rabbit hole and became very interested after taking a high-level course on sales engineering. In a way, it seems similar to my prior role in product, but in this, you’re more engaged with sales. I think this could be a pivotal point in my career where I can finally find some fulfillment. I don’t have professional selling experience, but I have sold something in one way or another - whether it's a product I use, a service that I swear by, or an idea that I have. I’m very determined to make a leap of faith. I’m hoping I could connect with the community to gain any guidance, perhaps a resume review, or even a referral. I appreciate all the help there is to offer. YOE:7 TC: 140 #sales #salesengineer #tech #solutionengineer

Sorry to break it you but sales engineer isn’t sales. However, after a few years, you might have acquired some sales skills so you could try to move into a quota carrying role.
