I am starting to think Chinese interviewers currently fail non-Chinese candidates on purpose.

Cute girl on the floor
1. One of 11K that were laid off from Meta. 2. No visa issues Context: I need to make the decision on the contract offer that I have received Right now I have 2 career paths: Option 1: Become an independent contractor and do multiple gigs through my LLC Current Status: Received offer for one long term (1 year + ) contract, looking for another contract (hopeful of landing another one soon). 2 Contracts will make my TC (all cash) ~475K , higher than my TC at Meta when I was laid off (340K after stock drop). Before Meta, I was previously doing multiple contract gigs simultaneously, so I am used to it. Option 2: Big tech: Current Status: In various stages of the interview process at one of AANG, ecommerce, and gaming company. Have not discussed salary but I would expect 350-400 K Tradeoffs: 1. Contractor: Benefits: a. Resilience: Over employed gives more security as even if fired from one job, I still have another contract b. Easy WLB: I was previously overemployed. much less stressful than working in a high pressure big tech where all companies are laying off. c. Financial:All cash Drawbacks: a. Hit on resume b. Work is boring 2. Tech Company: Benefits: a. Resume/Brand for what its worth b. Interesting and challenging work generally with smart people Drawbacks: a. Layoff risk: LIFO b. Stock Compensation instead of cash Any advice as to how I should think about different options?
How did you get the contact gig? Where does one find these opportunities?
The first contract is the ex boss who has moved to different company. Previously I got them through some of the gig portals that are out there.
Can you name a few such portals
Keep it small keep it all… You can get coverage with that TC on the exchange easy.
I would opt for job, since that ensures somewhat more certainty. Btw, how do you manage your llc work with w2 work? I want to do that, but i worry about the legal ramifications.
Yes I wont do full time W2 if I do LLC. I am signing C2C contracts
one full time and one contract
I just got a C2C offer and potentially have another lined up for February. I'm leaning toward finally taking the plunge. We could crash and burn, but I feel like I'll always regret it if I don't at least try to go independent and just stay on the wage slave treadmill forever.
I'll go for C2C and building my personal brand. Let's go for a poll here. All the best!
How do you land these contracts?
Boz, focus on Meta. Bozo.
