Hey all, would appreciate help in evaluating this offer from NerdWallet as I'm coming from a non-tech background, but it feels like I should be able to push a bit further given the market. Team: Marketing Base: $145K Sign-On Bonus: $5K Equity: $50K (at current market; vested over 4 years) Location: LA (fully remote) YOE: 8+ #marketing
Its a little hard to tell since you’re coming from non-tech- I would say it’s just a bit low (no yearly bonus?) I would push for $10k more in base and $20k in equity.
Appreciate it! And yeah, I thought no set annual bonus was a bit odd as well.
Yeah, the lack of bonus is odd. But the offer seems close to being good.
All considered it’s quite good
Not dissimilar to an offer I got under very similar circumstances. Good luck
How did you handle the offer?
For manager level that looks pretty good to me. Some companies don’t do bonus as a rule, but worth asking!
I agree. Way more than I was making as a manager in LA (granted, in non-tech).
The base is competitive, especially for LA. For context, LinkedIn’s base range maxes out at around this number for an LA-based Marketing Manager. The bonus should be around 10-15% annually of your base in this scenario - if it’s not, consider adding $10k - $20k to your base or annual equity grant, because a bonus is market standard.
Thanks, appreciate the context. The base seemed okay compared to my current base ($125k) but the bonus structures and equity are where I'm a bit unfamiliar. Does look like a bit of a lowball offer.
Watch out for your “leadership,” I’ve heard it’s a mixed bag
Are they still hiring for marketing roles? I’m looking at breaking into tech marketing.
Omg a Nestle person!!
I just broke into product management and have had interviews for PMM roles, it helps to have domain expertise. For me that was eCommerce, and highlighting that got me interviews at eCommerce tech firms
Look like a solid offer, especially for LA. TC is the same as my marketing manager Amazon job w/ 8 YOE (prev IBM). Most room for negotiation is that 5k sign-on. Shoot for 150k, 10k, 50k/4yrs
That's helpful context, thanks. They wouldn't move base, but they added an extra 5k in equity - not a lot, I know, but something!
It is a very good offer. You should find out how much growth marketing or digital marketing makes. Sometimes they get paid more than brand strategy.

What kind of marketing? Senior manager?
Manager, Brand Strategy
For LA it’s probably ok then. I would push for a bit more if there’s room.
