My first job out of college I spent 2 years at the company (.5 was a contractor and 1.5 normal), second company I was at for 1.25 years, and currently I’ve been at Amazon for around 1-1.25 years. I left my first company because I felt I wasn’t learning anymore and the second company because I felt like the job offer at my current company was better aligned for the direction I wanted to grow my career/specialization and the money was much better. I’m considering leaving due to poor WLB and potential burn out, thinking about taking some time off, anywhere from a few months to a year and travel and whatnot. My main concern is that I’d be labeled a job hopper if I leave soon and that it would make it harder for me to come back to the market after the time off. Should I try to last until I have 2 years at this current company? Would I be labeled a job hopper otherwise?
It doesn’t matter. Find a place you love to be at until then keep dating
Lol nobody cares about this.
Just say you were in a contract role and the contract expired or will be expiring.
With all of the layoffs from companies this year you’re actually concerned of being labeled a job hopper?
It's a valid concern.
I mean more that all the companies could care less about loyalty or time spent at the company or if there was a job hopper, they just chopped heads with care to the wind. Why do we need to be concerned of how they view us now?
I promise you nobody cares if you hop jobs
WLB and burnout are the worst reasons to leave a company. I would pass on anyone who decides to take a few months to play. You are a borderline job hopper - find another job before taking time off. It will take much longer to fund a job than you think.
what's wrong with someone who takes a few months off?
A few months off could be okay, but it's kind of borderline tbh. With OP's level of experience he should be working hard and not taking too much time off.

Who cares? Amazon is a sh** company that you managed to stay at for longer than a year already. If it’s killing your health, get out ASAP. It doesn’t matter what people think. The market is horrible and every company has adopted draconian practices in the last year. I don’t think reasonable people would call anyone a job hopper these days. Just make sure you line up offers or execute on a leave of absence before putting in your notice.
