I am starting to think Chinese interviewers currently fail non-Chinese candidates on purpose.
Hi guys In my 12 YOE, I have had 4 employers as follows: 7 years: Employer 1 3.25 years: Employer 2 14 months: Employer 3 3 months: Employer 4 (changed jobs recently) Employer 2, 3 and 4 are bigtech companies (faang level). If make myself available again in this crazy job market, will my profile be viewed negatively by recruiters (employers)? I am talking about bigTech companies like Amazon, Meta, G, Oracle, Robinhood, Snowflake etc. Which type of companies will consider me with short tenure at new company? My TC is lagging as I spent too many years in my first job. Employer 4 kinda lowballed me as well and I need to fix this. TC: 265k #faang #recruiting #swe #hft #amazon #facebook #google #robinhood #snowflake #microsoft #aws #techcareer #sre #interview #interviewkickstart
I don’t think it’s a huge red flag leaving a job after 3 months if you can explain why. Your first two jobs and even your prev job all had long / solid tenures. Although I don’t know why you took the job if you’re not happy with the TC…I also don’t think it’s good to compare your career and TC trajectory vs your peers. Everyone moves at their own pace
But it sucks to admit that "my pace is horrible compared to everyone else"
OP’s pace isn’t horrible at all. Why so many tc chaser these days?
You just have to come up with a good reason.
Is WLB considered a good reason?
Yes it does
Pretty sure you'll be fine but if you're concerned you can also consider not including Employer 4 in your resume at all, problem solved.
Yep, background check only verifies what you provide. There is no secret database where they look up all your past tenures.
This, I would either have a good explanation for leaving or just leave it off your resume entirely. It's not uncommon for people to take a year off between the big tech companies.
you'll be fine, I had a 5months on resume, was able to explain why easily
How did you explain
“So I was the best Engineer on their Engineering team and I felt they cannot hold onto a big brain like me, so I left”
Amazon wouldn't care, recruiters are targeting everyone rn
Lmao I'm interviewing for my 4th role in 3 years rn. Recruiter didn't really care
Why is amazon hiring like crazy ? Some new big projects coming up ? Or everyone is leaving lol
I have similar YOE and thoughts around staying too long in my first 2 employers. Granted, Bay Area tech pay hasn’t been this crazy until last 4-5 years, IMO. I’ve been here since 2004 (grad school). Here’s a thought: leave out your current employer on resume and LinkedIn. As long as you left on good terms with 3rd employer. Say you took time off to take care of family or whatever during covid. Job hopping is understandable, but 3 months may be a red flag.
Yeah, you can omit the three monther
You nearly halve your stay at every jump
Is it a red flag for you? If I tell i intend to stay at my next employer for 5 years, will you believe me?
I won't, it's tech and this is pretty normalized. There's just too many factors to keep engineers happy and engaged.
No one cares. Should be fine.
Just have a good reason for leaving your current job after 3 months. The only red flag is that imo.
Currently L5 at Apple?
ICT4, ICT5 right?
