Hi everyone, I recently cleared interviews for SSE backend role at PropertyGuru Group. It’s a listed startup headquartered in Singapore with offices in India, Malaysia and Thailand. I interviewed with Google 8 months back and was downlevelled to L3. My team matching has started recently. I am expecting around 35-40lpa salary from PG. Google won’t be paying more than 25-30lpa for L3 role. Now the thing is, I wanted to work for Google for as long as I can remember because of the culture, benefits, peers and good work. But a bit disappointed due to downlevel since my compensation would be affected. I have made stupid job hops in the past and I look like a job hopper right now. I have 2-3 big company names on my resume and 2 startups. If my next switch to a startup isn’t successful, I would be unhirable for sure since my resume would look messy. With Google I’ll get job security, brand name and stability for a while. But less money. With PG, I’ll get good work, good pay, higher designation and responsibilities. I also have tendency to spend more and working on lower salary would affect my current lifestyle. So my question is, what should I choose? #tech Last TC: 345k AED TC: 0 YOE: 4
Lol property guru isn't even profitable. Play the long game, join Google and look for transfers after a couple of years overseas
Even Uber wasn’t profitable for a long time. But product and work is good and they pay well.
Sure, check out 99.co their competitor and then take a look at propertygurus site before deciding if their product is good
How about wait for an offer from Google before making a decision? Afaik, external L3s make as much as 55 lpa, 50 being normal. Promo from L3 - L5 takes ~3 years if you are good and get the right opportunities. This would simply double your compensation. What is your projected career growth at property guru? I would compare not just the initial tc, but the tc over the next few years
I don’t have much idea about PropertyGuru, just that it’s a good mature startup, I’ll be working on backend side and the fact that my pay would be good. I feel if I perform well, I might get promoted. I have been waiting since last 8 months for Google. My recruiter isn’t really good, she has been forcing me to give interviews for SRE team, which I recently refused. I have been trying to get a relevant team - not getting response from any hiring managers on LinkedIn. They prioritise new grads for L3 roles I guess. Let me know if you can refer me in your team, my feedback would invalidate by next month.
Hey OP, I’m interviewing with PropertyGuru Group as well, and really like the team. Like you said, it’s a good, mature startup. In my interactions with the hiring team, it feels like they have a good work-life balance and stable environment. For the role you’re interviewing for, will it be based in India or Singapore? I’m asking this because I’m based outside of Singapore, and I’ll need visa (Employment Pass) sponsorship, so I’m wondering if they’ll sponsor your visa.
India based.
Thanks for the answer mate. All the best in nailing an offer!
Join PropertyGuru. I worked there and it’s a great company. It’s nearly a monopoly and very stable
