I'm planning to relocate to Nashville for personal reasons. My role at Google is eligible for temporary remote only (with a time limit). I was wondering what are other good companies where I should apply? I'm talking with recruiters from several companies that do offer permanent remote. Is there anything in-person in Nashville? Amazon and Oracle got all this hype about opening offices there, but I see very few listings. Are there actually engineering teams there? If it matters, I am pretty senior at Google with experience in Applied ML, data engineering, data science, recommendation systems, live experimentation. I also have experience as an Eng Manager. I don't mind taking a significant pay cut, but would like to do something interesting.
Nashville got hyped up during pandemic but honestly looking at what happened to Austin, I doubt there will be any big tech presence. Maybe I am wrong - as a HM with some open roles last year in Nashville - I didn't see enough talent pool. For supply chain non tech - it is a decent spot.
Your best bet is Amazon, in terms of pay and interesting projects and maybe some startups in healthcare also. Major employers in Nashville https://www.nashvillechamber.com/explore/work/major-employers
Given your experience you would fit well in at Digital Reasoning. Everything else is gonna be disappointing and expect to max out at 145k realistically, just being honest. Lived here my whole life.
When you say pretty senior, what level exactly are you at in Google? Most of opportunities are in Seattle for Amazon despite Nashville being marketed as HQ2
L7 π I don't mind taking a step down in seniority, a pay cut, or working for a smaller company. I don't want to be working on some random low-priority project that got outsourced to a backwater location. Maybe fully-remote and Vanderbilt are my best options.
@amazon Huh? Nashville is definitely not marketed as HQ2 lmao. Arlington, VA is HQ2, and Seattle will be the only location that has more open roles than Arlington.
