Amazon Offer: L5 - Seattle 220k TC (150 base, 105 sign, 130k RSU) Cisco G10 - RTP, NC 150 TC (115 base, 15% bonus, 20k RSU/yr) 6 YOE - rising @ Cisco, so if I stay, I’m safe and have potential to continue growing as a Tech Lead/Manager. #offer #cisco #amazon
Lowball I got 200k as an SDE1 though in the Bay
220k is not a lowball for L5 in Seattle
I had 1.5 yoe.
You sure you want to leave NC to move to Seattle?
No, that’s why I’m polling 😂
I chose Cisco on the poll solely because of cost of living. I live in RTP and love it.
Are you grade 10 or 11? That's not clear
It's very clear unless your IQ is 11
😅
I would take take amazon in this case, - good TC - high learning and growth (make sure you like work and team; as much as you can know before joining) - Seattle will have better opportunities and also people to help you grow as meet up and hackathon and all. - are they providing you relocation? Think about long term pros and cons.
With Amazon your long term will lead to more career prospects while making money.
Go amazon. With your current salary and exp, forget about becoming manager. Unless your group is growing fast with manager having several g4 to g8 engineers reporting. Tech l3ad is possible which is g11 but u will be still less than amazn current sal as oppose to g11 starting sal. Only negative abt amazon: work life hectic in most orgs. Amazon can PIP you while Cisco can layoff you. I think PIP is once a year while cisco layoff are regular quarterly or biannually. Cisco will welcome you as ex-amazon while amazon will grill you even more once they know you are layoff person.
I’m already a manager... Are you aware of salaries and cost of living in Raleigh vs. Bay Area or Seattle? Appreciate the comments
Are you sure? Or just got pumped by your manager to assume it. If you are manager then you should have access to the mrr ranges and holding power for g10 .. Which BU are you in?
RTP, NC is better based on quality of life. 150 in NC vs 220 in Seattle looks kind of similar
Stay at Cisco. That sign on is going to make you a slave for 1 year. If you quit, you owe it back.
It's 2 years, not one. They give you the signing bonus for a lapse of 2 years.
Not true about owing it back. That signing bonus is split and paid monthly.
If you think of long term... any sane person will definitely suggest amazon because if its about $ , there is no match between cisco and amazon. Your career would have a different launchpad , definitely. Although the cost of living is high in Seattle, the number of opportunities are way way to higher and with your exp , you can easily make 300k in a couple of years which is never going to happen in cisco period. Amazon culture might be shit but cisco is way more shitty . At least you would grow faster in amazon than cisco. Wlb will def not be good in amazon but you definitely can move on for another job like now. The game is a longer one , op. Good luck
If 6 yoe, then your offer should’ve been higher than 220k tc
Data Engineering role, not SDE
I agree, i have 4 years experience and my base is 155. This is what really pays the bill for first year.
