Received an offer for Director level at Discord. 323k base 750k / 4 years equity 75k sign on paid after 3 months 510,700 TC Currently manager at Netflix 488k all cash Discord equity has no liquidity right now, but tons of upside and I hear an IPO is imminent. Netflix offers large cash salary, but is going through transition with new Chief Talent Officer and shift to regionalization. I welcome your thoughts!
Discord it seems. Seems you're worried enough about the ongoing changes to interview. Trust your gut.
I guess you can take a shot with Discord. And what does “going through transition with new Chief Talent Officer and shift to regionalization” mean? Can you please explain on that.
+1, was interested in joining Netflix
Netflix is moving towards a more traditional matrix reporting structure. Big change and details are being figured out on the fly, and inconsistently from org to org.
That’s a nice spot to be in, Netflix. Personally I would look into work culture at Discord, if you like their tech stack, etc. I think Discord has a bright future but personally would if it was my choice stay with Netflix; hope it goes well Netflix , congratulations on the offers and keep us updated
Thanks GitHub. I think that’s going to be it for me. All cash TC and potential growth opportunities at Netflix closes any potential gaps with the Discord offer. Discord is also very small and I don’t think the talent density is there the way it is at Netflix.
Thanks for letting us know, Netflix, and those are really good points Wishing you well and happy new year
If the discord work sounds interesting/challenging/good culture etc - I’d say go there, why not. 323 base is not a crazy amount of difference between 488 at Netflix and enough to live comfortably on. Plus a high potential upside w/ the stock. I would try and negotiate some more stock from discord to make up for uncertainty and vs current TC. That being said, if you like your current role and want to maintain secure/reliable cash for personal living reasons then maybe stay.
Agree comfortable to live with but it is a pretty massive drop off. What kind of burned me a bit is I gave my cash minimum at the beginning and they said “no problem for us” and when it came to offer after about 10 interviews they came in 27 below and wouldn’t budge really on the cash or the equity.
why do startups give such a low amount of rsu? 187k usd per year, seems really low you’ll need to have it 5-6х during ipo to have the same level as directors in public companies
I don’t think they’re EM/SWE.
Agree was a bit disappointed with the RSUs. It’s pretty late in the game so I would really need the stock to pop in order to get significant x on it
Is it just me or is that TC awfully low for a Director? I'd be looking for at least 700K
For the field that I’m in, was expecting TC to be in the 600k range. So a bit disappointed in both the cash and the RSUs
Discord!!!!
What function is this?
Tech ops role
Tech ops... does that mean TPM? Anyway the Discord opportunity has more upside to come. Bummer they won't budge, but if you believe in the trajectory, go for it.
Congratulations OP ! I am having a conversation with Discord recruiter for EM position, can I DM you?
