I’m a SWE in the UK with about 8 YOE, working exclusively in finance roles. I’ve mainly been using Python in this time with a little Java in the last year or so. I’ve been thinking about a move to a tech company, but looking at roles at Google they all seem to list Java/experience developing apps as a requisite, where my experience is definitely lacking! Am I out of luck until I get more experience, or are there roles where they don’t care too much? I’m ok with a bit of a down level (I’d somewhat expect it crossing ‘domains’ anyway)
They dont care at all about languge.
Don’t worry. It’s probably an advantage. Google use of Java is so opinionated and limited to Google’s approved set of standards and libraries, you wouldn’t like it if you had a lot of professional Java experience
I'm getting hired at Google to work in go and python neither of which do I have any notable experience in.

Nobody cares. Just do leetcode well. Your actual language experience is moot
