I got laidoff last month and recently accepted an offer from eBay's Ad org. I am happy with the offer and TC given the market, also really liked the team. Then I started reading Blind and, as always, I became sad with all the negative reviews of eBay and the work culture. Is it really not a good experience? What should I prepared for? And how to adapt? Are there any more chance of layoffs? Old Faang TC: 310k Ebay TC : 335k Yoe : 3 #tech #ebay
Just fix it
Wow ebay pays that well? I have the same tc for 7 yoe. So its a great offer
What level at eBay and previous company?
Mts2; Amazon
damn son, I knew MTS2 with 10yoe when I worked there. You must’ve killed the system design rounds
For some reason, Blind hates eBay. Just ignore it.
Ignore Blind. eBay is great!
I think ads is good. But in general eBay culture is shitty if you’re coming from FAANG. I’m an ex Amazon feel I made big mistake coming here. Fell for the wlb trap which doesn’t hold true anyway. My issues: * Gives WITCH company vibes. Statusupdates, multiple PMs running around asking updates , huge wasteful meeting * I’m an IC I feel like a salesman. I need to sell the idea to my overlords. * General distrust towards ICs they think everyone is slacking off. Having them updated the status in 10 different places will help them keep on track * More time spent in communication than actual coding. * Stupid monthly updates. Except for security patches majority of the updates every developer needs to do are useless . Hardly bring any value to customers but developers spend a week doing that. * Too much tribal knowledge and support for legacy code. Also, horrendous code at some places. * Leadership is shitty! They are trying to take advantage of the current market and tightening performance reviews Pros * Meet some genuinely nice people here! * eBay really has innovative in house solutions. Learned from it.
Thanks for the insight ex-Amazon. I will keep these in mind.
Mts2 that’s great offer. Can you share eBay tc split?
Off the top of my head - 220 base; 30 joining; 180/4 RSU; 10-15% bonus.
Reviews are completely based on teams and a lot of different factors. Don't worry much about it now since you have already accepted the offer. That's a great pay for your YoE especially for the current time.
