Hi everyone I'm currently a SDE II at Expedia FT. I just got a verbal offer from Amazon as a contractor. The pay is about 20% higher even accounting for benefits. Should I take it? TC: 122k Amazon offer 72/hr. Which is about 145k
$23k increase with no benefits is not worth the change. Plus contractors are first to be let go, given the climate it’s probably not the best option.
No I wouldn’t take it.
Contractors are the first ones to be laid off.
Do both
Your options are not mutually exclusive. Stay, keep and join.
Would I get caught this way? I actually thought about it
Keep applying. Contractor position sounds dreadful especially at Amazon and for such a low comp, definitely not worth it unless Expedia is that bad.
My comp at Expedia is low too.
Did you apply for FT and they offered you a contractor role ? How long is the contract?
I did not apply FT. It's one year contract, recruitor said it's contract to hire position.
I’d value job stability at a time like this tbh especially when the comp difference isn’t much more than what you’re making now but if you could somehow get the FT version of the role it’d be a no brainer
What was the contractor interview like?
One technical and one behavioral with system design at the end.
Do both jobs 🙌
