Just got an offer from Boeing and I’m wondering if I should negotiate my salary

Hi everyone! I just got an offer for a Level 2 Data Analyst role for $85K, and I am so excited! I was wondering if it's possible for me to negotiate 10-15% on top what I was given. I live in Southern California and it's really expensive so I’d like to ask for a little more. I have 5 years of experience in aerospace manufacturing and 2 years of data analytics experience, so I think I can make a good case for a counter offer. Also, is the $85K they're offering my annual salary, not including a performance based bonus? I've read it can be up to 7% at Boeing, but I’m not sure if that's true. So should I negotiate or could I get my offer rescinded for asking for too much? I don't want to screw myself out of a potential job. Any thoughts/advice on how I should go about doing this would be much appreciated. Thanks! Update: I’m in the process of negotiating my salary. Asking for 8.5% increase, which I think is fair. Originally considered asking for 10-15% but didn’t want to look greedy. Update 2: Was able to successfully negotiate $5k extra, making my base salary $90k. Still a little lower than I would have wanted, but I’m happy for the most part. 😃

Absolutely negotiate. They’re not going to rescind your offer unless you come across as a huge jerk. Did they give you any stock? Sometimes that can be easier to negotiate.

Ok great, I’ll reach out to the recruiter tomorrow and make a case for myself. No stock unfortunately :/ do you have any advice on how I should go about asking/making a case for myself?

Tbh I’m not well versed in the world of Data roles and how they pay but something along the lines of “My x years of experience amount towards $$$ in the market and I’d like to counter with a salary of $xxx”. You could also ask for a sign on bonus, which helps your year 1 total comp. Best of luck

Just say you will be thrilled if they can get you to or close to 100k and let them get back to you

Yeah I’m gonna ask for the 10-15%. I was scared at first but everyone is saying it’s perfectly normal to counter offer and the worst they can say is no

I would check Glassdoor salary ranges for your position. Remember your location is HCOL so you can definitely shoot for more. Personally I wouldn’t take less than 120k base salary

Based off the salaries on Glassdoor, they’re offering around the median amount for the role, the only thing is I live in a very HCOL area so I think a slight bump in my salary is fair

Always negotiate, even if they say they don’t.

Yeah I am. I don’t wanna be greedy so I’m asking for an 8.5% salary bump. Was thinking 10-15% but felt it was too much for an L2 position.
