I jumped from meta to a startup after the layoffs (was not laid off at meta, but was sick of it). After less than two months, I was fired from the startup, largely due to requesting to push a deadline around the new year holiday and taking a few sick days. Basically, when I signed back in after being out sick, I was fired. Of course this was a bad move on my part. I could have kept on at Meta and tried this out on the side to see if it was going to work for me before making the jump. I could have kept interviewing. In fact, I did. I had two other excellent offers from the bigger companies and they were both rescinded in December. Anyway, now I’m in trouble and could use some help. I’m looking for data science, data analyst / product analytics, or analytics engineer jobs. I have basic web development skills but am not quite ready to go for SWE or even DE interviews, especially in this market. Since I am in Bay Area and have to pay rent and the market doesn’t seem great for FTE roles, I am also open to contracting or freelance opportunities in the interim while i keep searching. Does anyone know what contracting agencies are good? I have heard of ProUnlimited and a couple others. Also, would anyone be able to help with referrals? I know there may not be much hiring going on. Unfortunately, i don’t have a lot of runway with cash (maybe 3 months) due to medical bills and supporting family. Thanks so much for reading 🙏 Update: if i name and shame the startup, it could reveal my identity. I have left Glassdoor reviews and a blind review for the company that specifies what happened to me. If people are interested in joining that company, they will find that review. TC: $0.00 (was $350K) YOE: 6 (4 in tech, 2 in research)
Nothing wrong with pushing deadlines around holidays or taking sick leave. Nothing wrong with leaving Meta either. Sorry it didn’t work out but don’t be hard on yourself.
Fucking assholes
Help us by Naming the startup and we will help
Startup name would help others too
Lots of posts requesting you to name & shame. OP rule can help others here if you do so
I work at another startup and i feel like I’d be susceptible to this problem as well. I’m so sorry to hear that OP, hope you get something sorted quickly! Don’t be too hard on yourself
How do you know that you’re at another start up. Maybe you’re at the same startup
Maybe lol but the ppl that got laid off here aren’t from meta haha
Sorry this happened to you. Wishing you all the best! I remember this stressful days at Meta. Don’t beat yourself for that decision.
OP this was definitely not a bad move, you got unlucky after making a smart move
Name and shame the startup please.
This was not your fault, as you imply in your post. Name and shame the startup. They are abusing employees with the confidence of a strong hiring market.
