Due to some stock appreciation, we hit 1M household networth today. Super grateful for the journey thus far, but plenty of ways to go till financial freedom. Mostly a combination of lucky real estate and investment account appreciation, as well as high income and low expenses. I think my high TC is due to being good at LC + job hopping. I’m at my 3rd company in 4 years and a senior SWE. Lucky to have been up-level’d at each job hop, but I did miss out on a lot of stock appreciation had I stayed at my previous company (Meta), so I guess there’s pros and cons to job hopping. My plans for the next few years: diversify into crypto, find a new stream of active income, get promoted to principal hopefully eventually. Not a huge milestone in terms of any changes to my lifestyle but thought I’d share with Blind since I wouldn’t want to share with anyone I know personally for obvious reasons Age: 26 My TC: 450K (probably closer to 500k with stock appreciation) Wife’s TC: 57k
Woah L6 SSWE at amz and only 4YOE? Congrats What is your timeline of hops?
Thanks! Started as an SDE 1 out of college at Google, hopped to Meta as an SDE2 a year in, and was in the midst of promotion to SDE3 so Amazon let me interview for senior
Nice congrats..there is 0 incentive to get promoted internally then, just hop and promote oneself
1 million at 26 is amazing. Congratulations on your prosperity.
Thanks! super fortunate honestly. My parents are pretty good with money so I always saw them focus on investing, which helped a lot with my financial plan. Again, most of my situation is just luck and being good at LC but definitely feel good about our household financial situation thus far
Just look at bitcoin my friend, not “crypto” take it from someone who has been in the space for quite some time 🤝
I was considering a mixed portfolio with 80% BTC and 20% ETH since ETH seems to have a lot of upside but need to look into it some more for sure
Not my place to say where you put your money, just saying everything else is a waste of time including dog shit ETH
Ready to jump from my company, haven’t done LC in 3 years. Any tips?
Look up the leetcode pattenrs (I think there’s 12 or 14). Filter by topic on LC and grind away. I’ve done maybe the same ~150-180 questions every time I’ve job hopped. I “remember” most of them at this point but they’re also pretty exhaustive of interview questions so I’d say that’s sufficient. Strings, linked lists, maps (lots of maps), graphs, trees, dfs/bfs, topo sort, tries, etc
Where did you meet your wife ? Why is her TC low ?
Mutual friends. lol she’s not a SWE but we’re working on getting her into big tech. We definitely conform to more typical gender roles though so she could be making 0$ and it doesn’t really bother me. We never use her money for anything but investments
Both of your ethnicity?
450K at 4 yoe is crazy good. All the best.
Thanks!
Congrats but *yawn*. Most folks in tech have 1M net worth in savings by 29-30 if you are single and by 26-27 if it's household if you are careful enough with money and investments. I have 1M net worth without even trying.
I think “most folks” is an extreme exaggeration lmao. Even if you limit it to HCOL big tech SWEs, I’d argue that most people are making closer to 200k which makes it a lot harder to accumulate 1M in 4-5 years of post college. But yes, as I mentioned, it’s not a huge accomplishment. Mostly just good timing.
What’s the blueprint to reach 1M then @bloomberg and OP
Yo, you married at 26, wow
This TC is at Amazon?
Yeah. Amazon was giving crazy offers in 2022

Congratulations. Did you at least shared & celebrated it with your wife?
Thanks! Not yet..she’s still in the office but might casually share it with her sometime in the next few days. Money isn’t something that she usually likes to discuss but I think it’s a small milestone that’s worth sharing at least.
She has been a part of this journey. You both deserve a good date night. All the best.
