- Took 4 months for process - Incredibly slow feedback - Lowball offer - Work was likely internal tools Was a dream at some point but I guess reality is different. TC 220K
What’s the offer
Google is the new IBM
If by IBM you mean the most stable, best benefits and great culture.
^^Koolaid must be SWEET^^
what’s wrong with internal tools?
Generally dispensable and high risk of made up work to please some exec or the other.
you have no idea if you think internal tools are not challenging, specially at google scale.
Must have felt good rejecting and posting here
Spoiler: Google rejected OP, not the other way around.
Level? Offer? Loc?
All the teams I talked to so far, are either Eng productivity, internal infra or some internal tooling team. Something most engineers shy away from. HMs are aware of the lack of interest from internals and have repeatedly ask for confirmation whether I am ok working on these projects. I turned down all of them.
Maybe good teams have real high hiring bars?
Could be. Perhaps that’s why I got matched to all these teams. But are you saying that engineers in these teams are of lower quality ? I certainly don’t think so. These work are critical. They are just not popular or interesting IMHO
Even flat TC should’ve been worth accepting
Gotta do what’s right for you, but did you try to get clarity on the work, plus make a counter? I personally love working there and find it’s usually the haters who got rejected that dog on it. 4 months is a very typical timeline for us, btw.
Somethings not adding up. OP has said in other comments that they took Amazon offer instead. But that is leverage for negotiation. Kinda strange that Google would lowball when there was a much higher amazon offer 🤔
Actually Op didn't get the offer from google at all😉

GOOG is overrated.
Only people who work at google are qualified to make that assessment.
Google shill spotted ^
