I was made redundant in a big consultation firm in the UK. The majority of my team mates also got impacted. Is there any point getting a solicitor during the consultation period or no point doing that and a waste of money? My thinking process is that since not all the teams working on similar stuff are made redundant and some just got reorged, there might be a point doing that with the hope of keeping my job — or even negotiating a better severance package? Again UK experience please :) #layoff #severance
Are you on visa?
Fortunately not on an employer sponsored one. But on a dependent visa to my partner
How long did you work for this company? I’ve dealt with British redundancy policy a few times.
14 months in total (with 7 months break for my unpaid maternity leave)
Under 2 years they can get rid of you for any reason. What was your TC?
Not really, in the UK these things have very strict processes and consultation periods the employer only has to go through to get this done. Taking the severance is usually best, that place will be a bad dream to work for after the layoff, everyone so disengaged as the remaining people also start applying for jobs all day too.
If you do have legal insurance, the employment disputes is one of the few cases when you can actually put it to work. Otherwise don’t bother.

The chances are low they are going to be able to spot anything. Unless you have some sort of grounds for believing you were done dirty I wouldn't bother.
