Interview Kickstart

Does the program help if you’re looking into more senior positions at tech companies? It’s a high investment especially when you have a family to take care of.

Read educative.io interview crash course and do leetcode instead.

which course ru talking about?

Ivalua Ch3 Mar 31, 2021

Don’t think so, from what I understand they just cover some basics and give few mocks. In the end it’s in you . How much effort are you willing to put? There is tons of material available for free.

Google sguna Mar 31, 2021

They start from basics but go in depth on many topics. And yes you still have to put in effort, but for the same effort, you will get much more out of it if the material is organized and taught in an easy to digest way.

I'd say coursera algorithms/YouTube plus firecode.io/leetcode and pramp/interviewing.io are way better options.

BS! Care to elaborate? Omkar is god.

Adobe the_vss Apr 18, 2021

Umm...no he isn't? But you're free to have your own perspective of course.

Facebook fb_$$450 Mar 31, 2021

As someone who cracked FB through IK last year, I would highly recommend it. It was expensive but you'll get more out of it than any of the other options mentioned above. Their Algos go much deeper than Educative and you can't just do Leetcode without knowing CS concepts and efficient patterns already. Saying do Leetcode is like saying do CS. It's a no brainer it has to be done. But it lacks consistency as different people drag your thinking in different directions with random solutions. I was memorizing solutions there which wasn't helping me until I joined IK.

Mind providing more context? YOE, prior LC exposure and what set IK apart?

Facebook fb_$$450 Mar 31, 2021

10 YOE, 150 LC prior to IK, 400 LC by the end of IK. Omkar who is their director of curriculum sets them apart because he covers both CS theory and applies it to the LC problems to extract patterns. He is able to do it more effectively than others probably because he has Stanford CS PhD and so has a different way of looking at things. You can feel the difference. Grokking coding interview feels like hacking the test while IK feels like learning CS. I would say if you have only a week of prep, Educative can help with memorization but if you have few months, IK helps learning things the right way without feeling like hacking the test.

Google sguna Mar 31, 2021

You will not regret the investment because they have a ton of valuable content, especially by Omkar. I failed my Google interview, joined them and then got through. People who never went through the program don't know what is inside, and even the sales guys at IK do a poor job in showcasing it. Mark my words here, you're gonna thank me a year later.

Amazon dJAy14 Mar 31, 2021

Mind providing more context? YOE, prior LC exposure and what set IK apart? Personally I've done around 100 LC questions so I have some exposure. I also want to crack Google but don't know if IK is worth it in my case.

Google sguna Mar 31, 2021

See above. For Google, given that they don't focus on Leetcode, it is even more important to approach problems with computer science lens as memorization of Leetcode won't help.

Can you add a poll to see if they what claim is correct - In the webinar they told that 95% people need this IK boot camp to get into FAANG vs only 5% are Self-taught

Amazon dJAy14 Apr 2, 2021

I know over a 100 people who got into FAANG from regular schools. None of them needed IK. It's a luxury option for people who don't want to spend time searching through amazing resources online that are all over the place and not organized. If you go through EPI and and algorithms book like algorithm design manual and then supplement that with leetcode and mock interviews you can crack any faang.

Twitter nvssr99 Apr 3, 2021

Yeah it’s the consistency and motivation - I always start don’t continue

Northrop Grumman frontbutt Apr 11, 2021

A lot of people put a huge emphasis on Omkar's foundations and live lectures, but the truth is they have a ton of other great instructors. You get access to the other lecturer's live material by default now, where as before I believe you had to request it. As for the pace, there is an option to do an extended curriculum where you spend 4 months covering the material instead of 2, but your support period gets slightly reduced to keep it within the 8 month total time. Personally, I find the extended one to be perfect if you're currently working full time and have other commitments. The default pacing seemed like too much, but you should be fine with that option, or the accelerated pace, if you are in between jobs or finishing school. It is a lot of work, but we are learning a ton.

I had watched a few lectures of a IK Instructor working at non-faang. They are complete shit.
