Posting on behalf of a friend: My friend got laid off and didn’t get the 60 day notice/ severance from Aeva today. My friend is not sure on how many people got laid off today!? Does anyone here know!? I think the number of lay-off employees will help in confirming if they should have gotten a 60 day notice per WARN act. #layoff #severance #aeva
Warn act needs 500 employees or 33%. If less than that one doesn’t have to have give 60 days
Employment is at will, so the severance package is not a must for employers to terminate employment for employees.
Oh wow that’s messed up. I know the founders
Apparently there's only been a handful of people affected.
I've been affected by Aeva's layoffs
I think it's 10%
AEVA is a dying company. Layoffs are hard but at least it’s before the rest of the people hit the street. The team (founders, senior dir, vps, not all). is not experienced enough run a company even during good times. They are an example of the excessive money that was circulating resulting in carelessness in due diligence. So they got money. A bunch of amateur started to believe in their hyped ability. Constant self assessment is a key requirement of good management.
I think it's easy to lose focus with the amount of money they raised and they did lose that on how to develop a product. But, I still believe they have enough cash to survive and come out strong. Very few SPACs have managed to deliver so far.
Was any severance package offered to Aeva employees who got effected? Sorry to hear about those who were let go.
Severance offered was very little compared to other companies
I got 4 weeks of base salary.
So, after I got laid off, I wasnt given time to say goodbye, so do not know the exact count. But looking at linkedin and from messages, I know at least 6 including me that got impacted. There will be others who did not share in linkedin or I do not know them
I am a current employee. Not impacted by the lay off. The internal announcement is ~10% of employees have been laid off. Not sure how accurate this number is
Yes, they were all in the Bay Area. Think about this statement, the company operates worldwide.
If you are in California, 60-day notice is only needed when the company layoffs over 50 employees
