Dropbox futures

I’m expecting an offer from Dropbox IC3(senior). Currently at Amazon as L5, TC 250k. Offer range from 320k - 350k. What do you guys think of dropbox future? Is it still a prestige company to join? #engineering #dropbox #offer

Who cares, experience matters.

Dropbox esqF07 May 19, 2021

320-350 is pretty low for Ic3. You should be able to ask for a lot more if you have competing offer

Amazon tdnV65 OP May 19, 2021

Ouch, what’s the range for a IC3?

Dropbox drl\ May 19, 2021

? 350k is just around the midpoint for IC3, and I wouldn't expect a new hire to be coming in above that

Most of my friends at Dropbox are unhappy with the permanent work from home situation. I left after 5 years because I'm not optimistic about Dropbox's future, but if you can put that aside it is a great place to work. Smart people, fun, technical product.

Amazon tdnV65 OP May 19, 2021

Thanks for the info. Did you leave for Google?

Google Ixqg67 May 19, 2021

Yup. I liked Dropbox more than google, but we'll see how I feel after we're back in the office 😛

Amazon cuberunner May 19, 2021

What was your interview process like and yoe? I’m an L5 also trying to relocate to the Bay Area

Dropbox shakniei May 19, 2021

What is your location? The ranges are different depending on where you live.

Amazon tdnV65 OP May 19, 2021

I’m applying from Seattle

Dropbox coal4rfrsh May 20, 2021

Well I can tell you the base salary range for IC3 in Seattle in EPD SWE is 170 - 200 - 230. 200 being the midpoint.

There are a lot of people leaving or who recently left because they didn’t like virtual first. That’s fair, it’s a big change and it’s not for everyone. Dropbox is at an interesting point in evolution. Large, complex, high scale product so some interesting technical and organizational challenges. We are solving hard problems. We are also pursuing new products so there is plenty of trying new things and experimenting going on in some new product teams, as well as platform-type investments required to support new products. There are many talented engineers. Dropbox has been great at attracting a certain kind of person: those who are pleasant to work with.

Dropbox rndk May 21, 2021

Lol at those Interesting, hard and challenging problems. but +1 on great people

Dropbox WUap51 May 21, 2021

I guess it depends upon where you are in the org. Platform in particular has a lot of interesting, hard technical problems. There are many product teams also solving hard product problems, which can be technically hard but not in the same way as platform tends to be. No doubt there are many teams executing on relatively simple things too, and that’s a good thing.

Similar position as you, joining Dropbox. Looks to be a chill place to work with good wlb better than Amazon/Azure with better comp too

Amazon tdnV65 OP May 20, 2021

Nice. As IC3?

Microsoft leet4lif May 20, 2021

IC2

Amazon tdnV65 OP May 22, 2021

BTW how’s the perm process like in Dropbox? Do they support day 1 green card? Is it impacted by the layoff this year?

Dropbox newtodbx May 23, 2021

The started mine in 1-2 weeks after joining.

Dropbox Andresofly May 28, 2021
