Went to the beach with my friend today. The beach was small and sparsely peopled. There was a cluster of about three groups of beach goers at one side of the beach. The beach was filled with sea weed, so clear spots were limited. My friend and I walked to the cluster and scouted the area for a good place to set up our picnic blanket. We were about 15 ft away from a white dude with his blonde partner. Just when we were discussing where to settle, that guy just yelled at us “You pretty much have the whole beach to yourself. Why do you have to settle next to us?” Well, first of all, we were just deciding where to settle, and we haven’t even pulled out our blanket yet. Second, even on a sparsely populated beach, I don’t think 15 ft is really “next to”. It would qualify as “near”, and definitely doesn’t warrant such an obnoxious reaction. So I yelled back, “I don’t think that was nice. In fact, that was very mean of you”. He just shrugged his shoulders and his girlfriend didn’t even look at us. We ended up settling further away from them. Is there a new rule I didn’t know about? We can’t come within 15 ft of a person on the beach anymore?
Fk him
Isn’t 6 feet was rule during covid?
Are you of Asian descent? Then most likely the first comment.
Take a photo next time
Move to 5ft near them
Weak response. You shouldn’t have moved.
It’s a cultural thing.
I think, if a beach is sparsely populated, you should settle as far away from other people as possible, after you’ve accounted for preferences with sun, shade, distance to water etc. That said, 15 ft away is perfectly fine and you’re welcome to settle wherever you want. The guy sounds like a jerk. They were probably thinking about getting busy, and perhaps some frustration there, but that’s not your problem
Lots of racism in this post
