From Product Management to Feature Factory

Laid off last year as a PM. Prior company had great culture, very product led, had a lot of autonomy and could drive roadmap. Post layoff landed at another company, but it is just a feature factory shop. Basically am a product owner and it’s obviously nice getting paid, but sucks knowing where I came from. This is just a vent. Anyone else experienced this? #product

What kind of company did you join? (How does the size of the company, stage, and how long it’s been around compare to your previous one? Is it public or startup?) Did you suspect it might be a lower caliber product org or were you surprised?

Happened same with me. I was in a a big company , although it wasn’t product led it wasn’t a feature factory for sure. It had decent focus on product strategy and the tech investments were made after making sure the impact will be generated. Now, I’m part of smaller company but it’s a feature factory without much focus on strategy. It pays the same - but much more execution focused. To be honest, after spending 8 years in product management, it feels like I’m not doing anything new. But will stick around because of the market.

What's the main difference between product PM versus feature PM ? Why one is better over other ?
