Hi, I know a common route discussed for new grad's that get into FAANG is to work at FAANG for 2+ years and then jump to a startup. It seems this makes sense because also if you are promoted at FAANG and jump to a startup you can end up with a higher role(?) Does the same apply to trading firms (e.g. Citadel, Two Sigma) jumping to startups after 1-2 years? Overall just wondering if 1-2 years at big tech vs. big quant would matter as a new grad for SWE if the ultimate goal is working at a startup (early-late stage). #engineering #software #swe
This is the way to do it yes. A non-startup will teach you a lot about pro-level SWE practices that you can never learn in college. It doesn't really matter if this is at FAANG or a big quant firm like Citadel or TS. The things you're trying to learn are how to test code, upgrade schemas, handle production environments, and effectively work on a team.
Yup , you should get bumped a level since you have 2+ years now. Gg man!
