The Google illusion dissolves rapidly once you realize that most other well-known companies pay more.
I’ve noticed this too lately. Google salaries posted in their LinkedIn jobs are substantially lower than Netflix’s at least. But Netflix is taking the approach of posting salary ranges like $100-$700k. So it’s maybe not the best to use them as a barometer lol
I don’t see the issue with street view. Courts have ruled that this isn’t an issue. It’s no different than you standing on the street looking at people or taking pictures of them
The street view one isn’t as egregious as scanning books without permission from authors I agree
Not going to bat for Google but the analogy isn’t great. Google had to build and bring up to web scale all the crawling infra and indexing.
Google took millions of books from college libraries and scanned them and uploaded them without getting permission from the authors and now they want to call foul on ChatGPT for doing the same thing. Can’t throw stones in glass houses with no consequences
Google books permissions have changed. Also, they scanned them. I think Google saying “we invested billions in crawling and information procurement, and use it to provide a very useful free service - please protect our investment” is reasonable.
The moment they opened their NY office and all the IB and management consultants got in was the beginning of their downfall.
lol ya I imagine it’s quite a sight to see the management consultants MBA their way around a tech company in nyc. Reminds me of when GM tried to open an office in NYC to gain street cred with wallstreet but also appeal to younger generations. They closed the office after like 10 years or some short stint.
