Got feedback I passed virtual onsite and I guess I’ll be doing team matching What do employees there think of it? Any teams to avoid or join? Churn? What’s comp like? Or anything else I should know About 10 yoe, sr swe and interviewed for sr swe, but is there likelihood to get staff? I think my interviews went well Thanks!
Sr swe from Apple to Sr swe at Pypl ?
Just contracting, not fte, but my team isn’t very fun, I’d bail even if I was fte
Didn't know PayPal had team matching. Usually people are hired within specific teams. BT recently undergone some big reorg in an effort to merge with Omni payments org I believe. I'm not from bt or Omni though.
You’re mentioning BT specifically. Any idea which teams?
No clue what’s open, the recruiter was a little confusing. They said I’ll be team matching and in offer consideration. I’m not sure if there’s more rounds of interviews or if it’s just here’s the available teams choose one
Comp heavily depends on location and level. At PayPal/BT, these levels range from T22 to T29 for engineers. T24 is called senior, but I’m guessing 10 YOE usually maps to T25 (staff) or T26 (senior staff). It really depends on your interview performance, though. Could you have become a full-time employee at Apple?
I think it’s in the bay, not sure if SF or SJ though. No, in IS&T the work isn’t hard, but not getting along with team mates.
For location it will be remote untill Sep 2021 at least. Then you will likely be able to choose a location. SF offices are being consolidated in the market st office that used to be for Xoom people and will now be a mix of Xoom, PayPal and BT people.
Very cool, congrats! I really like it here. I don’t think there are really any teams to avoid. Pick a team where the problems and stack sounds interesting. Comp is pretty accurate on levels.fyi if you’re in the Bay Area.
Sweet thanks for the feedback
If you are senior at Apple with 10YOE, you should come into PayPal at Staff level at least, which is T25-T27. I wouldn’t accept a senior position, would be a down level for you.
You think I can be staff level 2, I’m nota Ruby person, so not sure what to expect there
You will see people with 5 YOE at T25, so it’s more about how that would make you feel and how much ownership you want over projects. Obviously your experience with the language/technologies your role requires is very important too. Does your experience match or will you be learning new languages? At a certain skill level, most backend developers are supposed to be able to pick up any stack and just run with it. It’s okay if you have to learn on the job as long as you have enough experience to know how to do that.
