Took a C++ class last semester, I have the basics of it down. Im thinking of picking up Elements of the Programming Interview in C++ and after I finish it, start LCing for the first time. Looking around, Amazon requires C++ or Java. Google seems to like people that know C++. Im going to seek an internship next year (sophomore right now). #leetcode
I use C++ for all my interviews/practice. Biggest annoyance on leetcode is that C++ STL doesn’t have a easy split function, you would need to write your own (if there is, someone please tell me)
How are you guys creating an account using student email address? Isn't it read only for non work emails?
Part time job (simple data entry) at no name company, their email seems to work :)
I switched to python. Less cognitive overhead and more flexibility if I miss something and need to quickly refactor on a whiteboard. Also easier to manage the whiteboard with less verbose syntax.

I did all onsites with c++. It dosesnt make a difference. It only may make a diffference in team matching especially at google/fb where there are a lot of infra teams who need c++ people and coding in c++ in team match helps. For a begginer coding in Python is definitely faster. But I have been coding a while and I can code readable solutions in c++ fast enough that I got a strong hire in one of the rounds at google because of my speed.
