Stellantis NA said Friday that it's making staffing cuts to its engineering and software divisions. The automaker said the layoffs — totaling 400 white-collar employees — will affect about 2% of workers in the engineering/tech and software groups in the United States https://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/chrysler/2024/03/22/stellantis-cutting-white-collar-engineering-tech-employees/73067644007/
dead cat bounce layoff
Need to build those electric cars.
The stellar reliability of their vehicles might suffer, lol.
It’s unfortunate, especially since the industry is in a bit of turmoil right now. I hate that people are being laid off due to executive greed and incompetent leadership, while the end user has to suffer through a decreasingly inadequate product. In the end, a terrible company does terrible things.
I am not sure about the car industry being in turmoil. Car sales are actually pretty strong but Stellantis is a mess because they basically went upscale with Jeep and Ram and are failing now . Rest of European brands they brought over like Fiat, Maserati and Alfa are a flop.
Boeing laid off engineers a few years ago because who needs engineers when the plane has already been invented. Now their Accountant leaders are paying millions in fines for safety issues and don't know where to begin fixing things. Trust me, software companies laying off people will soon feel the same heat. When the market changes, prioritize your salary and forget loyalty.
CEO finally resigned.
Probably with a giant bag on the way out. CEO should be in jail
Is the cut happening only in US? They pretty much opened a new development center in India and hired a bunch of people.
Probably only US
Yes, only US. The number laid off will be hired in India, Brazil and Mexico.
