I'm looking to relocate with an L1 visa next year. Due to personal reasons, I need to wait until Q2 2020. I had an informal chat with a hiring manager, and he encouraged me to apply Q4 this year. When I raised my concerns regarding timing, he said after the visa is approved, I'll have a few months to move to the US, so I can work remotely, and do business trips until I'm ready. However some other guy I know told me that once your visa is approved, you need to move immediately. Anyone knows who is right? It's impossible to find this particular information online.
Visa rules change all the time. When the crack opens you better squeeze in at once
You never even have to move. L1 Visa allows you to work in the USA whenever you get here. You can even come temporarily and then return. There's no nonimmigrant Visa that forces you to live in the USA.
Thanks a lot, that makes sense.
I moved few months after getting the visa, so you don't really have to do that immediately.
Great. Any special considerations in that case? Did you have a relocation package? Could you delay all relocation help until you moved?
Yes and yes, but that would be company specific...
