I have approved L1 Visa stamped and was about to join my new team in Bay area. But due to lockdown restrictions I am unable to travel. Can I start working from India for the new team already? Can the I-9 formalities be done while I stay in India? #workvisa #l1 #amazon
L1 in inter company transfer. You might be already working for the same company. If your question is about whether you'll get US based salary, You won't as you don't have information needed to fill in I9. I9 primary purpose is to confirm your eligibility.
Yes I mean can I start having US based salary. I9 requires a bank account and I797 and Social security number. I have my I797 and there is a provision which says I can provide my social security number later.
Sorry, You can't. That's a textbook violation of L visa.
I highly doubt that you will be eligible to start working in the US without being present here first. Best to ask your immigration lawyers.

You cannot get US salary without having to first join the US subsidiary of the company.
Ask yourself where do you think the company will wire money to? If you don’t have a ssn and USA address you won’t have a bank account
