Who are these retards asking for dictatorship in India?
I joined Google 6 months back and got cme(Consistently meets expectations) in first perf. My team is filled with 5 L4’s and TL is L5. My goal is to increase TC (with little stable life) with below preconditions I’m an avg swe I’m okay to work 8 to 10 hrs(not more than 10 hrs per day) Good at interviewing skills My team is filled with 5 L4’s and TL is L5 7 yoe TC 320k (bay area) Manager looks like a nice person. But not 100% sure since I joined recently. With all these considerations which option is better 1. Work hard and get L5 ( probably 3 to 4 years because of competition in my team and my performance. It could take less time but too early to comment) 2. Work hard and get L5 then switch to Other companies 3. Work here 1 more year then switch to FB as E5 4. Something else, I’ll comment. #google #facebook
You are still new at Google. Give it another year but keep options open. Ask your manager about promotion prospects after 6-9 months (as you said he is relatively new).
Work for a year - 2. Switch to FB.
Stay two years with current team, then switch to gcp team and get to L5
Why specifically gcp team ? Don’t we need to prove again from scratch in new team ??
Yes you do need to prove yourself again. Move to a gcp team because growth will be faster there than other PAs.
Getting L5 vs not getting L5 prior to switching does not make any difference.
Yup agree. With all the considerations from my post, I’m not sure whether I need to stay or move to diff company etc …
do you have to compete with other people in your team for promotion at Google?
Except one, all the remaining are L4’s under our TL who is L5.
You don't know if it will be easier to get L5 by getting promoted or going to facebook. So be ready to do both. Tell your manager you want to work toward L5. This might get you projects that will help. Try to work with people at L6: perf committee looks for feedback from people one level higher than the one you will be promoted to. You will need to get At least EE for a few quarters. Every so often, interview at facebook for L5. Recruiters will tell you that you can't interview for a higher level. They are wrong. Avoid this game by answering the question "what is your current level" with "I am performing at L5, and I would like to interview at E5". If the recruiter presses, say "I would be taking a pay cut to cone to fb at E4, and I don't want to do that".
If a recruiter asks your level, ask them what's theirs, and while we're on the topic what color panties they are wearing. They will get the message.
Work towards Promotion and external L5 offer simultaneously, when one of them in hand, re-evaluate your options
What is ‘cme’ rating?
Meets the expectations.
I thought it is "Couldn't meet expectations"
