I have received an L4 offer from Google an am looking to upgrade to L5. My recruiter said this will involve additional LC and system design interviews and if performance is poor it may put my L4 offer at risk. Has anyone been in a similar position and can share some insight?
Yoe?
Bsc + 9
Cursed time has came when people call it “LC” interview instead of “DSA” lol
It’s Google’s fault.
Whats DSA?
Take the risk then
In my opinion, you should take the l4 and work on getting promoted to l5 right away
Personally I would take L4 because that’s just where I fit in terms of YoE and I have 4+MS. L5 would give you more responsibilities while learning the Google ways. If you think TC is worth it then go for it, for instance if you have a family moving to CA on an L4 offer alone might not be enough.
From Yahoo just take L4, the risk is too high I think
Can you share the offer your YOE and current TC?
9 yoe I’m not from US so TC is calibrated differently
BSC + 9 YOE - some of which are team lead capacity
bsc + 9yoe is L4. Grads with bs,ms,phd also join at L4.
Because I didn't pay attention I got into a L4 loop, I have ~15 YOE, L63. I turned the offer down, recruiter came back saying I could do one more coding rounds and a design round for L5. Still waiting on HC review. What would you like to know?
Trying to asses the risk level. If i fail L5 i may want to continue with L4 nevertheless
Yes there is risk since many variables you can't control. Basic rule is would you be ok staying where you are for anther year and try again later? Or do you really want to move now? If you are willing to wait anther year or go somewhere else then go for it. If you really want to go to Google then accept the offer.

I’m shocked the recruiter isn’t just shutting you down.
How so? I have 9 YoE
Why did you interview at L4 level then? And why did you accept then change your mind?
