Hi, I'm currently working as a software engineer at Google. My SWE level is L5. Im 35 yo and total years of experience is 10. English is my second language as I grew up in India. I may get promoted to L6 in like 3 more years. I was thinking if I should go for a part time MBA. My goal is to become a good Engineer who possesses other skills, such as soft skills, as well. I feel these things are more important at higher levels. I would like to hear from a very experienced SWE engineer. Blind tax: typical L5 salary.
You are already at G, just learn from your colleagues, online courses/mentors, and Internet. Life is short.
Yeah but classroom discussion is also important. Right?
lol no. You won’t learn anything from peers in a mba program.
What is typical L5 salary?
“Typical non-L5 response”
You will ne.... But firstly what's typical L5 salary?
TC or GTFO!!
MBA just for soft skills ? There are millions of trainings for that
MBA is not for learning soft skills - read a book, and take on more of a leadership role for that (doesn’t have to be on your main project). MBA is a networking opportunity first and foremost. You’re paying those sums of money (at good programs, anyway) to meet other people who could do that, and will move on to be good connections in your future career.
