My manager is L5 SDE. I heard he needs to be promoted to L6 in a year. In order to be promoted, he needs to promote an engineer from SDE 1 to SDE 2, and he needs to fire someone. We are just 3 in his team and I am afraid he might target me. I want to verify is that a manager requirement from L5 to L6 promotion? If so, shall I change team immediately? TC: 200k
No not required but proving they can manage a team thru promos and URA helps
He is a recent manager and got transferred from SDE2. There are two SDE1 in the team. To one, he is giving many responsibilities, to another (me) he is sending meeting notes after 1:1. He doesnt do it with anyone else. What do you think?
Setting you up for focus, run
Lmao he HAS to fire someone in order to be promoted? Make a deal with them under the table op
Don’t report to L5s not worth it. Ur manager needs to know staff level engineering for you to be successful
Shall I change team immediately?
I kind of sense he might target me as he isnt giving me very important work.
Don't worry about pip/firing, Amazon layoffs will get you sooner. Or the work pressure that will eventually cause health issues, or the quarterly URA quotas. Lots of ways out, which is why we are earths best employer!
Is Amazon run by Satan himself?
Seems like mafia, where to become a “made man” you have to kill someone
Take FMLA
Why the hell does he need to fire someone? What a joke company.
Suggest offering some $s to your skip to fire your manager so you can step up. You’re on the way out so nothing much to lose.
