I’m L5 doing L6 work since 2 halfs and looking for promo next half. Airbnb has a L7 role with requirements matching 100% my experience. Is it realistic to consider that move? Tc 450, 10yoe+
used to work at Airbnb, getting senior staff is extremely difficult but it’s much easier coming in from external. If you were staff at Meta I think there would be a potential but L5 to L7 I don’t think would be considered but you should definitely go for it regardless
Promos are lagging; this means you may already be staff but without the title and pay.
Just don't tell the next company that you are not a staff and it's fine... Meta doesn't do titles anyway
What's your yoe? Most Sr.Staff hired from outside have at least 10+yoe.
Yes more than 10yoe
Go for it. It all depends on your interview skills and your experience. We have folks with 15yoe being offered L5. Not all yoe are equal.
You go though general hiring pipeline before you get match with the team. Kinda like what Meta has except for bootcamp. If you think you can crack their interviews for level 7, why not to try? Just tell them you are L6 already at Meta.
This role is exact same domain, problems, and tech I’m working on so not sure if they will be a team match? It’s kind of already matched I guess… I believe I can crack PM, tech side but leadership might be a stretch or I have to prep like crazy and be super lucky
? Wouldn’t people usually first get an offer and think about it?
You are right, however evaluating chances/risks before engaging in weeks/months of preparation and multiple interview rounds, it might be good do own due diligence?
OP I doubt you'll get it but you might as well try.
You might be right but can you please elaborate the rationale behind your thoughts? FYI, Some hope come from that I can confidently share L6scope in a very niche domaine knowledge experience required for this role. I have doubts about the leadership interview though. What do you think?
Not sure if having domain knowledge means you'll necessarily get a level bump. It's worth applying for to see what happens but I would put the chances of going up 2 levels is pretty rare. We do see a lot of L5 to L6 transfers to airbnb so interviewing for a higher title and increased TC is always a good idea.
Not a chance. You’d have to lie about current role to even have the recruiter consider you for the role.
I’m not planning to lie on anything but I will not share my current level. I will describe my current role which a L6 scope and if doesn’t work that’s fine.

Is "From the River to the Sea" So Wrong?
OP, I voted yes but when Abnb check the background then will it get expose anyhow? Do levels at Meta different by title name which they will see in the report?
No, level are internal, we are PM from L3 to L7, they can’t find level unless someone knows and ask my manager. My colleagues can guess level but they don’t know for sure. And I’m doing L6 work and I think I come across as L6 in my interaction with people.
Are you sure the level doesn’t show up on work number?
