What do you eat every for BLD? (and snacks?) This is more for working professionals. I love Indian food which I enjoy once week or every other week (biryani and some curry), but cannot imagine myself to eat the traditional south Asian food everyday. My body doesn’t it take it well and I don’t feel as active and healthy as I would on my normal diet (which is mostly European / continental). Curious.
Brown rice/quinoa/chapatis, boiled veggies and lentils. No we don't go "curry"! Curry makes your gassy
What’s your European/continental diet? Curious
Just plain continental diet - Fish, meat, diary, lots of greens, berries. Usually some fat based or alcohol based sauce.
the best indian food is the one you’d cook at home so that you can adjust spices to your liking. rotis (flatbread), cooked veggies, lentils etc are the staples. if you’re more into cooking, follow some youtube channels of indian recipes, you wont regret!
Yeah I do. Home cooking seems better and cleaner. But too much effort to cook Indian food :/ although I enjoy cooking it. I end up eating a lot of carbs and overeating coz it’s so tasty lol
Traditional south Asian food is very different from what you see in restaurants. Restaurants food is what kings/nawab's etc used to eat. That luxury is not what people eat every day. Flatbread/rice and lentils with some cooked veggies is your traditional food. Sub for quinoa, whole wheat for even more healthy. Go curry once a week. You can totally do traditional if you wanted to. But it's less exciting. I personally do a hybrid with salads for lunch and above style for dinner. No breakfast or a fruit sometimes. Weekends are cheat days and eating outside
This is a good enough diet. My parents literally follow this pretty much as is. We had a chef at home in India when I was growing up, so we did eat “majestic” food everyday lol. Although the portions were small. My parents realized this was unhealthy in their 50s and switched to healthier alternatives. I still force them to eat more steamed veggies and less fruits.
Serious question. Why do a lot of first generation Indians in America eat Indian food all the time? I say that as I work with first generation Irish, German etc. not like you see Germans with big steins of beer wearing German outfits and eating German dishes in the US.
Great question! I never got an answer lol. I think we equate food with culture. I saw the same with middle eastern and Italian folks too. Indians are a bit more that way, I get annoyed when my 1st get Indian friends suggest Indian restaurants for occasional dinner meetups - I’m like we could try Japanese or Korean and could still survive you know lol When I was dating if a girl suggested an Indian restaurant for a meet up - immediate left swipe. Sorry not sorry 🤷♂️
maybe the answer is diversity in indian food. Indian cuisine is extremely diverse with lots of options to choose from, especially for vegetarians who don’t get that in other cuisines.
All my grandparents side lived past their 90s just on traditional South Indian diet. Always fresh cooked food. Most of the time from their backyard. No health ailments. You can say what you want, but Indian diet has it's merits.
My grandad is 89-91 and growing strong lol. He drinks too. In their time, everything was fresh, pure and they did a lot of physical work with little to no mental stress. Times have changed now. Also, it’s the genes, you can’t beat them. Hope I got them lol
No my grandparents weren't farmers. Just normal folks doing routine stuff. By your logic, eating overcooked good should have killed them early
Yikes! No one eats biryani every day. Curries, of different kinds, can certainly be had everyday, but they don’t taste like what you’d eat at a restaurant. Those are way too rich.

What places do you recommend to go in Bay Area? I’m not south Asian but am curious what are the best food places because I am curious of the culture! TIA
I have a southern palette. One of my parent is South Indian and the other from north, but I like south food more. So take this with a grain of salt - 1. Tabla, SM 2. Saffron(for consistency) 3. Zareen (for authenticity) 4. Little India, punjab cafe (takeouts that are somewhat ok in quality) These are safe bets. Any other place I’d have to call in sick to work the next day lol 😅
Thanks! Appreciate it will check out
