BREAKING: Internal sources confirm another round of layoffs just hit emails at Tesla. For real.
New grad AS is L5, not sure how they do it at Microsoft. With that being said, you’ll get a lot more than 180k as an Industry hire AS
New grad AS is L4
PhD new grad AS at Amazon is L5, Master new grad AS is L4
What’s your current title at Microsoft? 180k TC for L63 seems low.
It’s 63 median comp :) 145 base 15% bonus 17k refresh
Sr Sde. Yes its just average
Ask for 350+. Level 6 AS is way up in 400-550 range.
Don't come as L5. You would be starving for growth opportunities and at year 5 your compensation will be at the low end of L5. L5 at Amazon should be for people who have under 5 years of experience
Even in MS at 5 year end comp will be less
Down leveling is normal from MS to Amazon.
I came in as L5 but i was 62. Was trying to negotiate for L6 but failed. I would not make the same mistake again
It is hard to have L62 in MS join Amazon as L6. Small amount of L63 get to L6.
What is AS?
Applied Shitheads
Basically people who are not good enough to be research scientists and can't crack leetcode.
How many yoe? I was L60 with 3.5 yoe at MSFT. Got tired of the slow growth so went to Amazon as L4. 8 months later became L5. 4 months later went back to msft as L63. So if you have over 5 yoe and are consider senior at msft you should go as L6. L4 is associate L5 is normal L6 senior L7 principal
Nice! How much did your TC jump?
It wasn't bad at all. Left microsoft with a base of 94K, joined AWS with a base of 120K, got promoted to L5 and raised base to 141K and then MSFT offered me the L63 role with a base of 160K. Currently get up to 30% bonus and 17K stock vesting 25% each year. Also got a 10K sign on bonus which I was told normally they dont give out for my role.
Ask 450k
What’s your offered tc, yoe and how was your interview experience. If you answer these three then you’ve your answer
If they offer you 300k package, why not? I think you should try to get L6 if you are AS. SW role requires a knowledge of Amazon infrastructure, but AS does not need that to perform. And there is a shortage of ML skills. Everyone with ML experience gets paid 50% higher than SW with the same level of skill.
AS are paid higher than SWEs in Amazon?
Yes
