- Spoke to recruiter to confirm Microsoft L64 position - When asked about salary expectations, noted $190-$200K + other bonuses and incentives (tried not to give specifics) - Recruiter mentioned ok, knows AMZN pays higher but may be do-able since location is NYC. - Got the offer: $150K base / $50K Stock vest 4 years / no sign on / RBI and CBI total 20% of salary - I mentioned this is a pay cut for me and I cannot accept this - Recruiter said I mentioned $150-$160K base on our initial call. I disagreed and reminded recruiter I wrote this in an email - Recruiter asked what I was looking for and I mentioned $200K base / $400K stock / $100K sign on (realize this is a bit high but figured this gives them room to negotiate down) - Was told these numbers are for L65 or L66 positions, not L64 but will ask HM - Got the call back and was told can't meet this offer and will let me know if there are any other roles in the future. Said the team had no budget for a sign on bonus and next time I should specifically mention what I want upfront. Offer rescinded, no further negotiation. This is my first time in a while really negotiating (20 YOE total in the industry). So not sure what went wrong here. I thought by telling them upfront a base range this gave them an idea if I should even be considered for the loop. Also just the # of years I have worked. Team and role seemed like a great opportunity and I was excited. But now super disappointed how this did not work out at all. Wasted tons for time preparing for the loop. Would like to learn from this experience to understand what I should do differently next time.
Microsoft didn't think you were worth that much
So why even have me do the loop?
U did nothing wrong. That's on msft
Thnx. Wasnât sure if I was wrong to put a high counter number in hopes they would negotiate down, instead of rescind offer asap.
My guess is that msft realized that you realized how much they were low-balling you and didn't have the budget and or headcount so they rescinded. Sorry that happened to u. You shouldn't be taking an L64 with 20 yoe anyhow
50k RSU a year or total? Either way, it's shit. Fuck Microsoft.
$50K total over 4 years. So $12,500 per year. Thought MS could be better than that. I have read here that they may not pay the best but felt this was surprisingly low. I hear good WLB but think that would be dependent on the manager and team.
I would have laughed and ended the conversation there.
Lmao wtf I had an l61 offer 140k base 140k stock 40k sign on a month ago. Andi I turned it down because low-ball af I'm 2 yoe..
that's your level at Amazon?
You did nothing wrong. I think itâs a combination of MSFT paying shit and âthe marketâ. Had similar experience at eBay recently. 14 yoe and their offer was 70% of what I make now. They rescinded and kinda blamed me for not disclosing my expectations, which of course I clearly did in my first call with the recruiter. Or itâs a soft rejection. I have this feeling that this is how google rejects people nowadays..
Sorry you had a similar experience at eBay. âSoft rejectionâ - that is something new to me. Is that where they donât want to hire you but for one reason or another donât want to outright reject you, so they give you a super low offer hoping you wonât take it.
Don't judge the whole Microsoft based on your experience with a specific team. Try not just other companies, but other teams at Microsoft. You'd be surprised how different your experience could be.
Thanks. I will keep that in mind. Is it the hiring manager that controls the hiring budget and headcount or management above him/her that determines.
This can't be true. This is BS troll
Nice try AMZ recruiter. In other post guy is offered 190k usd over 4 yrs in India for L64
I had a similar offer. 17 YOE, L63. 100k RSU. A bit better, but not by much. Offer was 80k less than current TC.
U went too far across with numbers..should have asked us here at least for the range. This is out of range for 64 including Bay Area except exceptions based on competing offers
It happens. Nothing wrong on your part. Try somewhere else like netflix, fb, snap who pay the big bucks. The company wasn't able to match your expectations. Be disappointed in MS, not yourself.
