How much does someone who’s L9 at google make? For the uninitiated, the role would map to senior director or distinguished engineer. Asking to understand if it makes sense monetarily to stay put and grow in a large company or risk it all to start something on my own. If L9 TC is only around 1M then the time and effort aren’t really worth it for me.
Yeah, dude, not worth it. Stick to L4 and don’t sweat it.
Why would I stick to L4 when I’m already an EM / at L6?
So you don’t get to even interview for L9 when you are L6. Doubt you would even qualify for L7.
Last year an L9 IC in my PA (YouTube) made 383k in salary and received a 900k refresher. Rating was strongly exceeds expectations.
Yeah I heard 1.2 - 1-4 M with refreshers and with usual stock appreciation
Really, that’s it? I was thinking L9 would be 2M+ with CME.
When you are there, you can tell us!
Sure. Try not to get banned until then
L9, Eng? $2M-4M. Wide range.
Are you sure? Then VPs, SVPs would be 5-6M?!
Where are you getting the ranges for VPs, SVPs?
“Only 1m, trash pay for the effort”
I got 1.2 M for an HFT about 1.5 years ago
I got 5m doing marketing for cigarette companies in the 60s, son
If you have to ask blind, you won't cut it. Look around you, do you know anyone in your network at L8+?
I know 4-5 L9s at google, about a dozen L8+ at snap, a lot more than I could count who are L7+ at google and other fang. I even know svp at apple very well. You don’t ask them their compensation straight to their face…
You do. I asked and they told me about the range and the path how to get there.
Definitely > 2m
Ask HR for pay range. The law is on your side!
Don’t have an offer.
OP is an L5 plotting grand scheme which he will never pull off, lol 😆
L7 800 , l8 1.1 l9 1.3 to 1.5 million
Levels.fyi will tell you.
It doesn’t have the accurate data
L7 TC is around $0.9 (and it has enough datapoints), L8 is 1.5m (lesser datapoints, put plausible based on overall curve), so L9 should be around 2.1-2.4 by estimates.
