Expedia CTO fired due to violation against company policy
Hi everyone, I’m moving to the US in less than a year and was wondering about job opportunities in the US for optical engineers, especially in the camera/lens design category. I’m currently working in Europe in Huawei’s smartphone camera design lab with almost 2 yoe so far (and a master’s degree). My job involves lens designing (in Zemax), lens characterization etc. I want to know what companies and states would be good to keep in mind when moving to the US? And what TC should I expect? Can someone already guide me things to learn and gain experience in my current position that could help me with interviews and land a good job in the US? Thanks :) #engineer #hardware #optical_engineer #optical #camera #image #imaging #optics #lens #zemax #lens_design #design
Thanks and I understand you, but unfortunately due to the compensation companies offer here (perhaps due to less competition), it’ll take me a lifetime to be able to pay for a house. And due to family reason, I have to move to the US anyway.
Look at the SPIE salary report for optical engineering salaries comparison across countries and industries. https://spie.org/news/salary-report-2021?SSO=1
You will see the US is the best paid and US defense the highest pay on average. In my experience there reports are accurate.
There are good jobs all over the US for optics. But there are a few hotbeds in the Bay Area CA, San Diego CA, Colorado, Boston MA, and Rochester, NY.
I’m not in US so idk about TC. But most major semiconductor companies (KLA, AMAT, ASML) and companies working on VR/AR such as Meta or Apple will probably have positions in optical engineering available.
