I’m a junior graduating December 2024. I have Citadel recruiters pinging me every week. In fact I’m talking to 2 of them at the same time. All the graduating seniors at my school also have Citadel recruiters pinging them. I was talking to one of them and he didn’t want the job either. Why does no one want to work there? Is it that bad?
- comp mostly the same as faang - have to work in finance or whatever the heck they do - why bother doing that shit when you can make the same money making react components at google 5 hours a day?
Do google people actually not do much daily? Like it’s easy?
@Wells Fargo when I worked at Google during my gap year I was working ~9 hours a day on average
Are these really Citadel recruiters or are they just headhunters? Everyone and their mom gets headhunters in their DMs as soon as they get any work experience at FAANG or a trading firm.
Engineers get a few pings from recruiters and they think they are the prettiest girl at the ball. Same issue with Amazon. Just because a recruiter pinged you does not mean you passed the interview and got an offer. Just because you passed the interview and got the offer doesn't mean that you'll survive there.
External recruiters pinging you for HFT/hedge funds means nothing. They ping everyone with a pulse.
Citadel pays really big bonuses for bringing in candidates. That's why the headhunters are so thirsty...more $$$ for them.
They are also a very big firm and hire quite a lot, and thats good for headhunters since its a numbers game for them, the more people get in the more money they make. There is a higher chance some googler or metamate gets into Citadel than they will RenTech for example, so headhunters aren't really incentivized to recruit tech people for smaller or more boutique places and are instead super biased towards Citadel, JS, HRT, etc. for candidates coming from tech.

Why Worshipping Lord Ram Important in Hinduism?
WLB sucks. Turns out not everyone wants to put in 50+ hours a week working on how to optimize trading random stocks nobody gives a shit about
That’s what I think everytime a hedge fund reaches out. I’m like ok so you want me to build the app infrastructure that supports other people who make random algos that trade random stocks and make you money… Most jobs are pointless but that’s a whole new level of pointless.
It can certainly be an interesting problem to solve. How's that worse than adtech?
